The Executive of the Year Award recognizes a
chamber CEO for outstanding performance over the
last year. Candidates are judged in five areas of expertise including
finance, communications, legislative action, and
membership services performed by the chamber.
Gary
Plummer, President/CEO of the Greater
Springfield IL Chamber of Commerce is the
recipient of the 2007 W.A.C.E.
“Executive of the Year” Award.
"2007 was a pivotal year for the Greater
Springfield IL
Chamber. Through Gary's guidance, the
chamber increase their annual budget by 73%.
The chamber was also active politically opposing
the governor's gross receipts tax proposal.
Under Gary's leadership, the chamber formed a
joint venture with the Black Chamber of
Commerce, Urban League and the NAACP, creating
the Diversity Development Council.
The
chamber also completed a major economic
development campaign raising over $5.1M in
pledges over a five year period. The
economic development effort is targeting job
creation and retention, improving local air
service, and streamlining the development
processes. In fact, the chamber collaborated
with organized labor whereby they are investing
10% of the $5.1M.
The
chamber's chairman of the board summarize it
best when he said that, thanks to Gary, the
chamber has been elevated as a community leader.
