At the 2010 Annual Conference,
W.A.C.E. recognized chambers that had developed
new, innovative programs and, maybe most
importantly, could be replicated by other
chambers.
Salem OR Chamber – “Small
Business Information Center." With
employers in their area having a tough time
finding qualified employees and the US Chamber
giving Oregon an "F" for post-secondary and
workforce readiness, leaders from the Salem Area
and Keizer chambers got together with the school
district, workforce development board, and
community college and developed "Ready to Learn,
Ready o Work" as a way to address the workforce
skills gap.
Medford/Jackson County (OR)
– “White Water Times
Initiative” – This is a five–part program to
help members during challenging times that
included (1) the chamber closing from 3-5 so
chamber staff could volunteer its time and
expertise to businesses in the community, (2) a
survey program, (3) affordable advertising
opportunities and partnerships, (4) a coupon
campaign and (5) a bracelet campaign to help the
Old Town dining & entertainment district.
Las
Vegas (NV) Chamber –
“Green Roots Program”–
The Chamber Green
Initiative Committee came up with this program
to help a business develop an easy-to-follow
plan for adopting sustainable practices to fit
its needs and budget. Program is designed to
capitalize on the green wave, save members
money, make some non-dues revenue and establish
the chamber as a trusted
one-stop resource.
Grand Junction (CO) Chamber
– “Social Networking 101” –
After developing its presence on Facebook,
Twitter and Linked In, the challenge of members
participating in these sites became evident.
Monthly “Social Networking 101: Get Connected”
seminars were held and the chamber began
offering on-site consultations where Chamber
Communications Assistant Amber Rich tailors
a 90-minute session to
better fit the needs of the business.
