Chamber Snapshot Survey Results: Chamber Membership Trends

Our Chamber Snapshot surveys provide a timely look at trends in the Chamber Industry. In October, we asked Chamber industry leaders about membership trends they are seeing in their organization. 1. In the last 12 Months, our Membership Retention has been...

• Strong Stability: The vast majority, 66%, reported that their retention rate
• Remained About the Same over the last year. This demonstrates a high degree of consistency and strong underlying retention programs.
• Significant Growth: A combined 30% of organizations reported an
• Increase Slightly/Significantly, showing positive momentum in their retention efforts.
• Minimal Decline: Only 4% of organizations reported a slight decrease, and no one reported a significant decrease.

In summary, 96% of organizations either maintained or improved their membership retention over the last 12 months.

2. ​In the last 12 Months, our Membership Recruitment/Sales has been...

Growth and Stability Split: The responses are nearly evenly split between those who saw growth and those who maintained the status quo.

• Remained About the Same: 46% (the single largest response)
• Increased Slightly/Significantly: 44% combined. 
• ​Minor Decline: Only 10% of respondents reported a slight decrease, and no one reported a significant decrease.
  

In total, 90% of organizations reported either maintaining their sales levels or achieving growth over the last 12 months.

3. ​As of September 30, 2025, what is your retention rate?

• The average (mean) retention rate across all responses is 84.5%.
• ​The median retention rate is slightly higher at 85.00%, suggesting that half of the chambers report a retention rate of 85% or greater.
• The lowest reported rate is 74.00%, while the highest performing chamber reported a near-perfect retention of 98.9%.

4. ​Looking ahead, we expect Membership Retention for the next 12 months to be:

Respondents are highly confident in their ability to retain members, with a combined 96% expecting their retention rates to either Remain About the Same (62%) or Increase (34%) over the next 12 months. Only 4% anticipate a slight decrease.

The vast majority of respondents (96%) are optimistic about membership recruitment/sales for the next 12 months, expecting either growth (72%) or stability (24%) in their numbers. Only 4%  anticipate a slight decrease.
