W.A.C.E. recently connected with a number of Chamber industry professionals for an impactful Executive Workshop, "Leading Forward: Bold Relevance for Chambers in a Rapidly Changing World". Held on May 15, 2025, at The Leta Hotel in Goleta, CA, this session was crafted to equip Chamber leaders with the cutting-edge strategies needed to navigate today's increasingly complex landscape. It was a day focused on mastering communication and maintaining our relevance, no matter the challenges ahead.

The workshop, led by Joey Zumaya, Founding Partner of The Zumaya Group , delved into ensuring strategic communications remain impactful amidst political shifts, economic uncertainties, and evolving workforce dynamics. We explored critical strategies for communicating value and relevancy to members , fostering an "abundance mentality" , and proactively addressing potential image issues. Participants gained valuable insights into navigating sensitive topics , responding effectively to current events , and leveraging public relations to solidify their Chamber's vital role as a trusted community leader. Our ultimate goal is to empower Chambers to ensure long-term stability and member retention, even in uncertain times.

Joey Zumaya's  presentation introduced several key communication frameworks designed to enhance confidence, clarity, and overall impact:

  • Summary Placement Framework: This framework helps structure messages so that crucial insights and recommendations stand out, making it easier for audiences to grasp and act on important information.
  • "So What?" Framework: This encourages purposeful communication by addressing the audience's underlying question: Why does this matter? It helps frame messages to emphasize relevance, value, and impact, making them more engaging and actionable.
  • G.R.O.W. Framework (Goal, Reality, Options, Will): A structured approach for guiding conversations toward focus and action. It's especially useful for coaching, decision-making, and problem-solving, helping move from broad goals to concrete next steps.
  • The 4 P's Framework (Pause, Paraphrase, Probe, Provide): A simple yet powerful tool for clear and intentional conversations. It helps leaders slow down, confirm understanding, ask thoughtful questions, and offer constructive solutions—all essential for effective leadership communication.

The feedback from our attendees highlighted the practical and energizing nature of the content. As Zeb Welborn, ACE, IOM, President/CEO, Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce, shared: "The W.A.C.E. Workshop offered clear, actionable frameworks that help me navigate challenging situations with confidence. I left with strategies I can immediately implement and, most importantly, felt energized by connecting with peers who are equally committed to growth and impact.”

We are proud to continue providing our Chamber executives with the essential tools and strategies needed to communicate with confidence and maintain bold relevance in our rapidly changing world.
